Ren's ear flattened. "A Hydra?" His interest in the subject soared higher than ever before. He didn't even know that Hydra's existed outside of myth.

"His must be a rare species! Why I hadn't even heard of Hydra before!" Ren stood and looked about the room, nothing. "where's he from? Oh! Have there been any other Hydra in this school? ever?" Ren sat back down to find his food sitting in front of him. How did I not notice anyone approaching? He thought to himself.

Drake laughed softly at Ren's sudden interest. "Yes a hydra. They are pretty rare, more so than even dragons or unicorn or other creatures of supposed fantasy. He was born a couple towns over, but his family's moved back to this area. And there have been two other hydra at the school since I've been here, possibly three. Both of his parents were students here years ago when I was just an assistant teacher actually. Allegedly every generation has a student here, I can't verify it past his parents and him though." Ah yes, the parents. Now they were a difficult bunch when he was younger. But that was two hydra at the school, not one. Which led Drake to wonder how exactly their family line would continue.

There must be a lot of pressure to mate with other Hydra. I mean with such a rare species it would be pretty much pounded into their brains wouldn't it?" Ren pondered, what would the parents do if the Hydra was homosexual? In Foxish families it was rare that anyone would complain, but Fox were so numerous no one could be bothered to care about numbers

"From what I've heard, and this is strictly based on rumors mind you, there is supposedly a way that hydra can have pure hydra children even if they have relations with someone of a completely different species. Now how accurate that may be, I have no idea. I'd guess even if it's true there's bound to be restrictions and limits to it, like someone else with scales, or the same basic body type. But I'm not an expert on them, that's part of what I wanted to discuss with the new student honestly. To see what I might be able to expect on that front." As the last thing he needed was a young hydra guy going around sleeping with every girl he could to try and bring up their total population.

Ren chuckles lightly. "Little more than rumours I'd expect. If that were the case then why would their numbers get so low in the first place? Unless they're big into the whole pure blood thing." Ren shook his head.

"The idea is ridiculous, if it really works that way then that will be a biological marvel."

"That's kind of what I suspect but ya never know. Dragons for a long time were in a terrible decline, now we're a little more common. Still, about the only people I know that could give me more insight on that or at least where the rumors started would be his parents. Heh, or maybe they're all just very secretive and there's a whole huge group of them around? Right now all that matters to me is polishing off the rest of these pizzas." And he did a good job on that, gulping down the rest of the first pizza in less than a minute.

Ren pondered on the subject while he ate his food, he finished within a few minutes, forgetting to enjoy it.

"I think it's a good time to move on, maybe we'll run into that Hydra. I'm very interested in meeting such a unique character." Ren stood and smiled. "the library then?" He left his plate at the table as he saw no obvious places to set it.

Drake laughed as he finished his food and collected the plates and trays, walking them back to the counter and leaning over to put them in a "wash" pile. "Sounds like this guy's got you fascinated already and you haven't even seen him. Right, on to the library. Oh, and if you do meet up with this hydra try not to embarrass him with too many questions about his kind right away? Just ask a couple questions unless he's okay with the whole biology of a hydra speech."

"Well I'm really more interested in how he looks an how the three heads perceive the world." Ren smirks as he tuna a corner in the hall. He had a vague idea of where the library was, but thought it best that Drake lead the way. So he stopped and let the old Dragon take the lead. "So, you know how their brains work? I think it would be complicated to move if they weren't at least synced up a little bit?" Ren pondered outloud.

Drake took the lead slightly, not too much so he could still have a conversation with Ren. "What I gather is there's three different sets of nerves running through him. Each set's controlled by a single head, if two out of three agree on something it's enough to move. Generally walking to class wouldn't be a problem, or turning a page in a book. Heh, guess the trouble would moreover come if they were in a relationship and one or more didn't dig whomever they were dating. And if one or more of the heads is unconscious or asleep then the remaining one or two have fewer signals interfering with movement, but one or two that are kind of numb. Guaranteed to go where that one wants, but not necessarily as quick. Now... this guy might be really different from his parents for all I know but I think that's right."

"three sets of nerves? If that's how it is I think a scientist would love to study it. That's amazing." Ren ducked as a student with sizable antlers on a not so sizable frame walked by. "Gah! That was close."

Ren growled as the student walked away without acknowledging him. Probably late for a class or something.

"anyways, when does this student start classes? Oh! Has he signed up for my course? Do you know anything yet?"

"Yeah, I think that's how their regeneration works too. I know this much from experience, if they get hurt anywhere below their necks they recover really fast. If they're hurt from the neck up, it doesn't recover so quick. And I'm sure you'll be seeing him around... uh... that's what I need to talk to him about. He's arriving either today or tomorrow, didn't expect him to come right to my office though so he probably has been here for a few days just checking things out. He... they... have EVERY course here. No fooling, each head has his own lesson plan and in total they have all the courses available including yours. Now there's obviously going to be a few conflicting schedules there, so that's what I need to sit down and chat about. See which days he'll go to which classes, or if he'd need any of them at special times like one on one sessions." Yeah, the kid was going to be complicated but it wasn't like any one was overworked... maybe the body would be but not the minds. And they were finally at the library, Drake smiled and opened the door for Ren.

"Every course!?" Ren entered the library with his Jaw agape. "That's quite a workooad for one body. Heh, at least they'll never get fat." Ren chuckled and checked the Library index for Lorca. "Ah here we go. Now Let's go see how deep this thing is." Ren started walking through the Library at a strong pace, passing through each section swiftly and without a thought. He still wasn't used to large libraries, he never spent too much time in them.

"Which head is taking my class?" Ren stopped for a moment to ponder that question. It was such a strange thing to ask. "Oh, what are the names by the way?"

"Well, I remember there's a Maverick, a Roderick, and... I think the last one's Luke. I wrote a note down, you'll know which is which because of the first letter of their names. Maverick is the Middle, Roderick is the Right, yeah I think it's Luke for the Left head. Umm... I believe it was either Roderick or Maverick taking your class, possibly both. Once in a while they do overlap." Drake was walking along at a steady pace, proud of the library and its vast collection. Maybe not the world's best but it was big enough you could spend a lifetime trying to read everything in here.

"Is that their right and left?" Ren asks as he starts browsing through section L89 of the library. "Hmmm, should be in here somewhere." He squats down and searches.

"Ah, here we go. The House of Bernarda Alba." This was the first play I'd ever seen, I loved it, shortly after I went to see Sweeney Todd." Ren flipped through the pages, this was an old copy, from the 40s.
