It worked well enough, Athos was sent flying but he managed to slide on his landing instead of just hitting the ground. "That's one way to do it. If you do take a sidestep you generally want to use one hand to also guide their swing further away from you so they can't try to correct or do a second swing. There are a lot of counters that can be useful, I'm going to show you all of them and you'll find which works best for you." Athos went through all the steps for every counter he knew. One of them was rather nice for her considering how well she'd been doing at the throws. Catching the person's wrist or arm, twisting, taking control of the whole arm, which could easily lead into a throw for her. Another counter he demonstrated let her see how to do the push aside he'd mentioned, a third decent counter which he had to show her as a desparation move was how and where she would want to use her own arm as a target for the blade. "Now this is obviously going to hurt, but what's better having a knife in your arm or having it in your heart or head? And once it's in your arm they usually lose their grip or you can figure out a way to go from there. Best if you're already vulnerable and can't do any other counter."

Well, again you hope not to end up in a spot where it's necessary but if something like that happens you would want to tie off the arm that got hurt, cut off or at least slow any bleeding before it could get too bad. I've seen people that have had a blade go straight through their forearm, right between the two bones, had the blade twisted in that spot, yanked out, and though it did do a fair amount of damage he was back at full capacity with it in about four months. So it is a pretty nasty thing but definitely better than losing an important organ. Now knowing how to counter attacks like this, you'll also know how to make a successful attack if you ever have to." Of course there were things about that he wasn't teaching her, or able to really. It was one thing to swing a little practice toy dagger, or throw someone around. It was a completely different feeling for them to actually hurt someone, to see them bleeding or dead because of you.
